TheHazard of Soil Pollution
Air pollution is getting almost all of the attention but soil pollution is also a serious problem. Although many individuals are not informed concerning soil pollution, it is something that we should be worried about. As soil pollution is in the ground, it isn’t that easy to detect. You could conduct tests to ascertain the toxicity of the soil.
When water has been tainted, its run off could cause pollution of the soil. As a result, plants become less productive and usually do not grow well. Much of the food we eat today has been impacted by soil pollution, and is not as healthy as it was previously. Additionally, without strong plants, flowers and trees growing around us, air pollution is worse, since they eliminate carbon monoxide from the air. Human error and neglect are the major causes to the soil pollution we have today. Chemical compounds are stored in tanks and placed underground which winds up seeping and getting into the soil. As a result, lots of plants stop growing and the area basically becomes dead with no life that can be found.
Other pollutants enter the ground from lots of sources like landfill. In earlier times waste from corporations and individuals was dumped in landfills, that did very little to protect the land. Water coming from rain or snow would carry these harmful toxins into the soil. The chemicals spread out by falling into underground rivers that take the chemicals to various places. Luckily these days, a lot of landfills are taking steps to limit deadly chemicals from going underground.
Another problem is the use of pesticide sprays on crops and gardens. Many organizations have been lobbying the government for years in order to protect the soil from hazardous chemicals. Through more stringent laws and regulations on certain pesticides or herbicides and the increase in organic farming, there is hope that soil pollution will improve. Lots of companies would like to change by doing things like making use of biodegradable materials in their products. The country with a lot of serious problem is the United States. This has come about with the high level of growth, in addition to an almost complete disregard for the environment.
Having said that, as more individuals understand more about soil pollution, the more action is being taken to fix the problem. There are many programs being implemented in the country to make the problem better by bringing down soil pollution. It’s fantastic that there are lots of people who are being more conscious about their health and are concerned about the soil.
